Update email Aug 11

Dear homeowners,

Following this week’s update, a couple of homeowners reached out for clarification on accessories such as bird houses and deterrents that are mounted to the big round posts that support our docks, this wasn't clear in the update email. While the boat house frames and covers are homeowner responsibility, the wood dock posts and dock sections are considered common area association responsibility. So bird houses and deterrents affixed to the big round dock posts would require board approval to add or remove. If in doubt email the board at setonvillageboard@gmail.com A bird house was removed and replaced with a hawk deterrent earlier this week that was mounted to one of the common dock posts in an attempt to mitigate the bird droppings problem, this WAS approved by the board and was done so in accordance with our current Rules, Regulations and Bylaws. That being said, we understand some homeowners are passionate about keeping bird houses on the docks while others are experiencing terrible problems with birds this year, (please take a look at the above photos of the O’Hearns taken the day after being cleaned) We also received feedback about the large droppings on the dock boards this year. Last year the Rimolde’ s were experiencing similar issues, though not nearly as severe, after removing an adjacent bird house (with board approval) and adding multiple deterrents, the droppings issue subsided at that end of the docks. The O’Hearns this year is proving much more problematic, it's possible we are just moving the problem. While Jim is experimenting to try and find something that works on their boat house to deter birds, we clearly need to take a deeper and wholistic look at the relationship between bird houses, duck houses and deterrents on our docks before making any further changes. Please bear in mind this a fluid situation, what has worked in the past is not working this summer and that may change again in the future. We are therefore reaching out to the DNR, pest control and dock builders for their opinions and are asking homeowners for their input too, regardless of whether you are in favor of bird houses or not. Once we have gathered input, our goal is to present options and a recommendation based on informed opinions to everyone before deciding on any further changes. Please share your thoughts with the board by emailing us at setonvillageboard@gmail.com We look forward to working with everyone on a solution that continues to preserve the beauty and enjoyment of Seton Village for all.
